Get details of all the shares currently on offer

We've collected together basic details of all the shares currently available on five reliable websites, put them in a standard format with links to the full details and put them in a table that you can filter and sort to help you find the perfect share for you - find it here.

Using a compact representation of boat layouts unique to this site, you can also sort the boats by layout - so, once you've decided on the layout that suits you, you can find all the boats which match your needs.

You can find detailed specifications of all the boats by using the links in the table (just click on the boat name or photo). The details include photos and lots more information. Many of the boat details now also include videos or 'virtual walk-throughs'. It may not be quite the same as getting on board and making contact with the real boat, but it does give you information about every boat with shares on offer and is there 24/7 regardless of weather or Covid-19 restrictions.

Who to contact if you're interested in a share

Please note that we don't sell shares - we just provide information.

Many of the boats with shares for sale are managed by one of the four management companies and you should contact them about the share or shares you're interested in. The companies are: BCBM, Carefree Cruising, J D Boat Services and Ownashare.

Most shares in self managed boats are advertised on the boatshare.co.uk website (which has no connection with this site - boatshare4u.co.uk). The boatshare.co.uk site advertises shares for sale but is not a broker. The boat details for any shares listed there will include vendor contact details, which you'll find near the end of the description of the boat.

If you have any information that you think could be included on this site, please let Andrew know. You may know of another base that welcomes shared ownership boats, have experience of a boat handling trainer or have a picture that might make a good page heading.

Boatshare - the shared ownership of a narrowboat - is a cost effective way of enjoying a narrow boat holiday cruising the canals. For around the price of a week's narrowboat hire, you can own a share of a quality narrowboat and cruise for three or more weeks each year. Shared ownership means shared costs. If you own a twelfthshare in a narrowboat, then you pay only a twelfth of the cost of maintaining the narrowboat. Narrowboat boatshare has been growing in popularity for more than 20 years. There are now more than 200 shared ownership narrowboats on the English and Welsh canals. Buying a narrowboat boat share can cost from around £2,500 to £10,000 for a twelfth or 8% share. Boatshare is not timeshare. The boat is owned by a syndicate, and the syndicate has arrangements for choosing weeks on board the narrowboat. Narrowboats are sometimes incorrectly called barges. Canal cruising holidays are one of the best ways to slow down and relax, while enjoying the English and Welsh countryside and its wildlife as well as seeing a significant part of Britain's industrial heritage. Boatshare of a narrowboat means that you own a share of the boat and it is yours for as long as you wnat to keep it. You can offer your narrowboat share whenever you choose to do so. This site provides independent information about narrowboat boatshare and what is involved in shared ownership of a narrowboat. The site also provides links to sites that have narrowboat boatshare shares for sale.
